Hahahahaha - just finishing up a Halloween House that I started last year. This is my favorite so far of the Halloween Houses I have created. I present Casa de la Muerte!

This house was inspired by a package of paper cacti I picked up on sale at Hobby Lobby. They had pink cacti and green cacti. I thought the pink cacti looked surreal and were perfect for the exterior. Also, the Disney movie Coco taught me so much about the 'Day of the Dead' celebration. That is why there are miniature cabinet card photos all over this house.
I made a tin roof using Tim Holtz mirrored paper that was run through a Big Shot embossing folder to mimic an actual tin roof.

One thing I discovered while making this house was the world of miniatures available on Etsy. Oh my word! The fun I had searching for the novena candle on the front left side of the door and the mini photos I used on the exterior. I can see the lure of making miniature things and the attention to tiny detail.

Happy Halloween! Ha!!
PattiDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11993271548399378494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2215605131153384761.post-6697487206308207172020-12-30T05:40:00.001-08:002020-12-30T05:40:44.698-08:00A Colorful Christmas
Our family Christmas theme this year was 'Color'. Kind of a tough challenge - each family took a color on the color wheel and then used the colors to each side for their color assignment. Of course, anything goes and I didn't want to be limited to 3 colors.

Using paint chips from the paint store, a paper punch, a gold paper bow, and my favorite 'Stampin Up' stamp set, I created this color wheel Christmas Wreath card:

The ornaments are cut from felt and layered up before stitched together. I added little charms with each child's initials on them. I sewed a gold ring onto the ornament to hold the charm and the eyelash yarn hanger. I played around with a lot of different ornament hanger ideas and landed on the eyelash yarn. It gives the ornaments kind of a Dr. Seuss look and feel!

Here is a close up of my favorites (meaning the ones with the most even circles)

I hope everyone had a very Happy Holiday and I know we are looking forward to crafting in a brand new year!
PattiDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11993271548399378494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2215605131153384761.post-20619958342028175382020-09-22T04:58:00.000-07:002020-09-22T04:58:19.902-07:00A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

I woke up this past Sunday and felt like making a card - it's been a while since I have been feeling the urge to stamp and create. A while ago, I made a card out of washi tape. The project instructions on that card called for painting over the washi tape, and I could not bear to do it. So on this project, I used black and white washi tape only, painted over the tape, and then sanded the dried paint off in spots. I really love how this background came out!

I added the butterfly cutouts after I had finished everything else. The project just needed a little something and I finally settle on the butterflies. Now they are my favorite part!PattiDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11993271548399378494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2215605131153384761.post-24091977124163131332020-04-15T06:26:00.001-07:002022-04-19T10:43:06.081-07:00Use Your Wings

Oh goodness, how I wish I were at the beach right now! I can't complain though - me and my husband get along well during isolation together. I am very happy that I have my creative projects to work with after hours - it does keep the anxiety away.

I have been enjoying this book about collage. This is my attempt at the first project, which is creating a torn paper collage of the beach using just cloud and sky images. I caved and used a photo of some ground for the beach itself, and then embellished with a stamped seagull. Gotta have a focal point!PattiDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11993271548399378494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2215605131153384761.post-12305341884977246542020-03-01T12:59:00.001-08:002020-03-02T05:22:35.822-08:00Ring the Bells Journal Page The art journal concept has been a new thing for me. I found that a good warm up exercise is to work on a random page in my 'silva rerum' (aka 'junk journal'). Yet, I had not really finished a page until today - and it still needs flattening out.

My inspiration was a beautiful Leonard Cohen quote that I cut out of a magazine. These lyrics really resonate with me - allowing the cracks so the light can get in.

I decided to finish the page so I could load it onto the Simon Says Stamp Challenge "Inspired by Music" page.
Adding wings again! I do love these transparent wings from Tim Holtz. The background is an image transfer of a mushroom onto some graph paper. I did not remove every bit of the transfer material because the image starting pulling away. It gives the image a kind of misty look that I don't mind. Next time I will stick the paper down before sewing - the project got a little 'puckery' when I sewed the elements together. I had to do a little surgery with an Xacto knife and some glue.

I do love red and white mushrooms. My Swiss grandfather would make concrete mushroom shapes and paint them red with white polka dots for our garden. They gave our yard a very magical quality!

One of the mixed media exercises in the latest Somerset Studio Mixed Media magazine was to cover a panel in washi tape and then paint over it with gesso and then add layers of acrylic paint on top.

On my first try, I covered the panel with all of the bright washi tapes I had and found I couldn't bear to cover it with gesso! I just loved it on it's own and didn't want to tone it down at all.

So I made the panel into a bright and cheerful birthday card for my niece.

Most of the washi tape is from the Mary Engelbreit collection and so the card came together easily with a vibrant red heart and some bright yellow rick-rack for an embellishment.

I am really loving the new format for Somerset Studio's magazine, there are many pages with projects to try on your own. I am going to do a new panel with subdued washi tapes and then try the gesso and paint. I'll let you know what happens!PattiDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11993271548399378494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2215605131153384761.post-79356981451782767582019-11-06T12:59:00.000-08:002019-11-06T12:59:59.346-08:00Mr. Bear ready for his journey...I made another felt bear for a dear work friend of mine who is having a baby soon. Also, included in the gift is a set of homemade burp cloths. Mr. Bear's bandanna matches the cloths (of course).

I have heard you can never have too many burp cloths when you have a baby, so that is my go-to handmade gift.
Here is Mr.Bear getting ready for his journey. He looks a little sad and I am said to see him go!
I was looking around my house and I have birds, angels and butterflies worked into my decor everywhere.

Using a vintage cabinet card as a base, I made this collage for my niece. The nice thing about old cabinet cards is that they stand up readily for display.

I added a hint of shine with some silvery chicken wire accents from Stampin Up and the background is collaged paper scraps and envelope pieces.
In this class, we made our own Silva Rerum by repurposing a vintage book cover and sewing in signatures made of interesting paper scraps. I used a smallish book 'The World Beautiful' by Lillian Whiting (I saved the book pages for later projects) and sewed in 6 signatures of paper from my stash that I loved. Included are vintage maps, ledger paper, wrapping paper, tissue paper, and some handmade paper.

Over time, this Silva Rerum will become a full art journal. I have already been filling in some of the pages with collages and collage 'starts'.

I think I am going to make more of these - I have so many beautiful vintage book covers to repurpose...
Have you ever seen those tempting packs of coordinated washi tape? I fell in love with a summery, fruit-themed pack and made a very quick card for my niece's birthday. I also incorporated a new handcarved stamp (the lemon slice). So quick and easy! I even used the washi tape to wrap her gift.

This bear is a gift for my good friend J.P. who purchased a camper last year and enjoys it most weekends (weather and work permitting). He wanted a bear to match the sheets in his camper and I found this great pattern on Etsy. I like this pattern because it is not too cutesy and the kerchief allowed me to incorporate some of the sheet material. I was lucky that the sheets came in a bag made out of the same fabric. Very handy for matching the bear!

I also made this tag for the gift - continuing the bear theme. I copied a Dover image of the bear and cut up a postcard that had some trees on it. The background is a chipboard tag stamped with wood grain. The balloons are from a Yellow Owl Workshop set.

Happy Birthday J.P.!!

My goodness! It has been a while since I posted, and, I am happy to be back!!

My dear husband blew out a disk in his back earlier this year and needed a lot of care. The poor fella was in agony at first. Opiates helped some, but, he was not wanting to get into that habit. Eventually, with some exceptional care from his doctor and some back injections, he is just about back to normal. I wanted to keep him company as much as possible because he was confined to the home so much. So instead of spending time in the craft room, I would hand sew - which I can do just about anywhere.

I made these adorable baby booties using felted wool and some printed jersey for the laces. At first I tried making them with contrasting thread (white thread against the pink wool), but, my stitches just did not look that great. This is the result of my third attempt. When you are making tiny items, every little detail needs to look just right. Or maybe I just obsess a little... LOL

The pattern came from a Creative bug class with Kata Golda

I am hoping to expand my baby booty skills with felt. There are some really cute patterns out there!PattiDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11993271548399378494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2215605131153384761.post-26571100920084236322019-04-04T06:00:00.000-07:002019-04-11T12:37:56.367-07:00We'll be Best Friends Forever

I hope everyone has a close friend like my dear friend Lisa. We've been friends since 8th grade English, where we literally could not stop talking during class. This resulted in all kinds of discipline efforts from our teacher which had zero effect on our discussions. Lisa and I have had all kinds of adventures - some good and some bad. However one thing remains constant, her brilliant presence in my life. Truly one of life's gifts

So I made this card using the clock face decal over textured silver paper, representing the long tenure of our friendship. The photos are from the Tim Holtz line. And that background! I was lucky enough to visit the famous Hatch Print gallery in Nashville a couple of years ago, and they had cut up remnants from printing errors that you could take home! I just love the colors and have been looking for a chance to use this piece for a long time. Chit Chat stickers provided the sentiment. The inside of the card reads 'because you know all my secrets'.PattiDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11993271548399378494noreply@blogger.com0
